THINGS TO DO

At Dumfries Villa, we are centrally located to all sorts of local attractions.
As well as golfing and mountain biking, there is a huge variety of beautiful walks and fishing very close to where we are situated, just a few minutes’ walk from Dumfries town centre and train station.
Other attractions include:
Caerlaverock and Drumlanrig Castles - These beautiful castles are well worth a visit. Caerlaverock is one of Scotland’s great medieval fortresses and boasts a unique triangular shape, while there are lots of activities foradventure buffs and children at Drumlanrig.
Robert Burns House - This is where the famous poet wrote some of his most famous work and this site is a real pilgrimage for fans of his work.
Savings Banks Museum - The world’s first savings bank was set up in Dumfries, and this important collection is worth a look.
Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura - This treasure trove of local history will amaze you, as will the views you can get from one of the world’s oldest optical instruments.
Dino Park - Great for the kids, this is a brilliant step back in time where you can learn more about the dinosaurs that roamed our Earth millions of years ago.
Caerlaverock Wetland Centre - If you like your wildlife, then this is the place for you. You can find orchids, butterflies, dragonflies and many more birds and insects here.
We are always happy to recommend places for you to visit on your stay in Dumfries as well, so don’t be afraid to ask!
